I share your passion for driveway ogling , but to my eyes that Ford Falcon is almost as interesting.

very nice -

Love being a little nosy as to what folks have tucked away in their garages. A neighbor up the street had a  1st gen M5 for a while... never saw him drive it, but he had it for “someday”.

Weird seeing like $150k of old Nissan just parked in some guy’s house haha. I’ve had a few Z32s - same era, different V6, twin turbo. Not worth 10% of what this is.

Ah yes. Certain circles/Youtube channels get very vocal about how good the Barra inline-6 Falcon engine was. You can pull a lot of power out of them with the addition of turbos, and there are a handful of street-driven 1000hp 6-cylinder Falcons hanging around. Skid Garage took a few to Drag Week in the USA, but while they’re common here for being in 20 years of base Falcons and taxis and such, of course there are pretty much none in the states.

Ah, I get it. There are plenty of mass produced V8s with overbuilt internals around that have tons of aftermarket but are pretty lazy in their more pedestrian applications. That engine was never used here so I didn’t recognize the name.

I still don’t understand why we got the Fusion while you guys got a better more fun Fusion with RWD. I guess fuel economy or something? At least stick a four cylinder in there for those who value fuel economy. Just look at how well the Dodge Charger still sells.

I think it was mostly legacy stuff. Ford Australia kept doing what it had always done, scared to lose sales from those who expected an Aussie big-engine RWD sedan.

It was their undoing as well though. They kept doing what they’d always done until SUVs took over and nobody wanted what they’d always done.

But yeah, somehow in Australia we were never happy with a 4-cylinder FWD sedan. The domestics were RWD with at least a 6. I think we had a 4 cylinder Falcon once, with abysmal sales.

There was still a market for something in the vein of the old Crown Vic but not nearly as archaic, and the Dodge Charger was a little to gang sta for some though it really was pretty similar.

Australia’s car market is a menagerie of all other markets squished together but with the added cost of RHD adaption so many cars were prohibitively expensive to bring over from the States.  I guess it also worked the other way with the Falcon for what might be a niche vehicle like the Chevy SS/Holden Commodore. GM couldn’t get the SS to work because they didn’t market it over the Malibu and Ford probably wouldn’t have been any different.

RWD is having a bit of a comeback since it became almost exotic in the non-premium segment right now and could be a big selling point . The new Explorer has it and new RWD architectures for SUVs are still being developed.
